Our Rover tool is used by recruiters to look for specific information about job openings and the companies that are looking for talent. But, if you’ve followed this blog for a while, you know that we tend to look at some of the big picture items to see if there is anything interesting that we can share.
We’re always interested in job trends here in Australia, so the other day, we decided to take a look at the businesses with the biggest increase in job vacancies in January 2022 compared to January 2021. You can see what the results look like, below:
The first thing that popped out to us about these openings was how many of them were directly related to pandemic needs:
- Countdown – Supermarket
- Home Instead – In-Home Care Services
- Deliveroo – Online Food Delivery
These are all services that have become critical and grown remarkably as a result of the pandemic. They’re also services that are, based on what we know about people changing jobs and careers, likely looking for help filling in gaps.
The remaining companies that have seen an increase in job vacancies almost represent the other end of the spectrum:
- FIS – Fintech
- American Express – Payment Card Services
- Burberry – Luxury Fashion
All of these are major brands. They’re also likely seeing growth because of an influx of cash from the pandemic recovery. Rather than filling in for missing employees or trying to provide additional support for the growth they experienced as a result of pandemic necessity, these are companies that have likely seen considerable success as consumers both local to Australia and abroad continue to spend money at a rapid pace.
